107 (who?)
We're your friends
And we know you have asthma
And we think it's time you got over it.

Your cerebral palsy is stupid
Why don't you just suck it up
Other people have it worse than you.

You don't really have HIV
You just think you do
If you stop thinking about it, it'll go away.

We've been talking about it
And we think that you're faking your cancer
Stop trying to get attention.

I'm sorry
You can't do any of that?
Then stop telling me to do the same about my depression.

"You can't reason yourself back into cheerfulness any more than you can reason yourself into an extra six inches in height" - Stephen Fry

I am sick. So sick of people treating Depression like it isn't a serious issue. "You're lying", "You're faking", "You're just trying to get attention", "Stop being so whiny", "Instead of being sad all the time, just be happy!"

If depression was so easy to fix, I wouldn't have had to put up with it for over ten years, I wouldn't have had to see three different therapists in the last four years, and I wouldn't have eight suicide attempts.

There IS no easy cure to depression. Believe me, I sure wish there was.

I go through this anytime I am real towards anyone! Even my own family, who also suffer from depression, will constantly tell me to "fake it til you make it because nobody likes a downer." Fuck that and fuck them all!!! Anyway, this is excellent work and definitely worthy of an insta-fave.

Beboming a loner is the only way to deal with all the people like that... i used to be one myself, with depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. Try to find people that share similar disorders or diseases... you'll fit right in...

Exactly. I have depression, Asperger's syndrome, ADHD and anxiety. People say stuff like oh, just get over it. Your no different than any other kid. But that's not true. So this is great.

Read this in that tiny little "Browse More Like This" off to the side, and I did NOT expect that ending XD I'm not laughing at the poem, it's very deep, and I feel you're correct, I'm laughing at the surprise twist that I just got.

Wow, really illuminating words. Great job! I really appreciate your writing this.

Would you mind if I advertised this poem on my tumblr? I would really like it if more people saw this. (Of course, I would credit you)

I know how depression is, it sucks for others. Especially when people around you notice it.
But it does have some strange rules. These things might help you, and these might seem harsh but it is the ugly truth.

1: It's selfish to commit suicide. Selfish. You need to stop being selfish because that pain you have is like energy. It cannot be destroyed and it will only move on. That is because it is an energy, a highly negative energy. That energy will go on to be a burden for your loved ones, because they just lost a piece of their life. When a parent, friend, boyfriend/girlfriend, and/or sibling loses the person they love, what do you think happens? Depression hurts, it hurts others to. You can open your eyes to reality and that's because you're still a human. This energy will effect someone, it will hurt someone. If you kill yourself, you can know that right before you die, someone is about to hurt because of you.

2: Never feel sorry for yourself. I don't care what happens, I don't care if you just lost your family, I don't care if you lose your legs. Someone has it worse than you and I can promise you that you will drown in a pool of hate if you don't get over your self-pity. Aw boo hoo, people don't believe you have an illness. Tough crap, that happens. We get dealt crappy hands in life sometimes and we have to make the best of them. It sucks, having to keep strong with something like that. But how can you start to get over your depression if you keep getting put down by all those petty comments?

3: You have a bunch of morons who don't care for you, stop paying attention to them. Notice the good people in your life, I'm sure they are there somewhere. And if you complain about those people, deal with it. Depression takes time to get over, you have to get over those tough spots.

4: Some depressions are very, very, very serious. So some you do need medication for, but you don't always need them if you are suicidal.

These have been learned by long talks from my father and just looking about in my life. Some of these might seem really harsh, but trust me this is my knowledge. Depression should be dealt with seriously, but not pitifully either. I know it sucks having everyone against you on something, but you have to get through it.
